nanne and ankie

so yesterday i called skye to play some tunes, which we did, but wound up playing them at this show bob zentz, her pops booked/played, at waterside. apparently, they're trying to book a bunch more music there instead of just being an oasis of hooters and bar norfolk. the featured artists were nanne and ankie, who are from the netherlands, not holland, but friesland. i don't really know why this was important historically, but it seemed like a big deal, so i just didn't ask.

anyway, so they did some thing called a song cycle about henry hudson and got invited to play it at the 500th anniversay of . . . the hudson river valley, i think. my favorite parts were 1. when ankie patted me on my back and looked me in the face and smiled and said we did a good job 2. watching this crazy storm roll in over waterside 3. the set which included hand motions. it kind of made me feel equally happy and embarrassed, like a lot of good things.
